Charlotte Griffiths

Welsh Raptor Monitoring Coordinator - Project Lead

Charlotte is a passionate raptor enthusiast who is extending her knowledge to support raptor conservation in Wales. Charlotte’s role is to develop and coordinate raptor population monitoring in Wales for Cudyll Cymru, BTO’s Welsh Raptor Monitoring Project.

Interests & Responsibilities

Charlotte has dedicated many years to monitoring raptors as an active member of the Shropshire Raptor Study Group, where she has gained extensive field experience and in-depth knowledge of raptor behaviour and ecology. She applies this expertise to provide training and support to the project’s network of monitors and to develop resources that enhance fieldwork efforts.

Her previous roles in the IT sector, where she led ESG strategy and technical marketing, have equipped her with valuable skills to broaden the projects outreach, recruit new monitors, and integrate innovative technologies into monitoring. Charlotte also leads in liaising with stakeholders, representing the project at key conferences, and compiling annual reports on the status of raptors in Wales.

In 2020, Charlotte founded Raptor Dogs, a project designed to deploy forensic detection dogs to uncover instances of raptor persecution. Through this work, she has developed a comprehensive understanding of this ongoing threat and its complexities, adding a valuable new dimension to the conservation efforts in her role.
