Would you like additional local support to increase your confidence in your birdwatching skills? Join our free field sessions across Northern Ireland this spring.

Our friendly staff and volunteer team are available this spring to help you feel more confident with bird identification and/or survey skills, whether you’ve done some surveys before or you are yet to give your first survey a go.

BTO are very committed to increasing participation in BTO-led schemes and surveys in Northern Ireland, including the Breeding Bird Survey. We’re pleased to be able to offer additional support locally to help increase skills and confidence.

We will be running small group birdwatching sessions at sites local to you this spring, as well as offering more bespoke support for the Breeding Bird Survey.

** Please ignore the event date on this page, we are running these field sessions through April, May, and June 2025. **

To get involved, please register your interest via the button on this page, and we will be in touch with more information.

Why take part in our Spring Birding Support scheme?

  • Maybe you'd enjoy getting out into nature with others in a small group, and learning from others about our wonderful birds and how to identify them?
  • Maybe you're looking to open doors to more employment opportunities in the conservation sector? Bird identification and survey experience are highly sought after in conservation. We want to provide more opportunities to access training in these skills.
  • Maybe you feel nearly ready to have a go at a bird survey, like the Breeding Bird Survey, but would like to give it a go in a low pressure environment first to build your confidence?
  • Maybe you're already doing some bird surveys, and you would like to meet other surveyors to answer your questions and boost your confidence in any details of the surveys?

Whatever your motivations, we want to facilitate birdwatching learning for all levels of interest and experience, whether you've recently started birdwatching or you're a long-time enthusiast. So join us!
